Decoding and Interpreting Scores for Motion

Deriving from the original workshop, Scoring Motion, this one-off workshop will extend the research by decoding the performance texts / composed scores dedicated for performers, not limited to any specified area of performers. Scores and texts have been functioning as instructions and documentations in the long history of music, as well as dance Labanotation, and later on, becoming the vital element in the Fluxus movement and performance art. Thus, the possibilities embodied in scores provides a basis for cross-media artistic practice. How do we, as performer, establish our own interpretation based on these notations and instructions?

Through using notation as a vehicle, this workshop will focus on identifying the capacity for creative input, and embodying performer’s interpretation through examining and understanding the intentions of the score creator and its relation to the performer’s artistic decisions.
