Together with Lawrence Lau, Joseph Lee and Karen Yu, the artistic trio is invited to the Seoul Dance Center for a two-week residency to share their on-going research on the notion of scoring as a tool for cross-disciplinary collaboration and creation over the past few years, and to conduct a co-research process, with the participation of the local artists, on how scoring is also a multifaceted tool to review their own artistic practice and to understand the artistic practice of others.
During the residency, the trio aims to initiate dialogues with the local performing arts community and share their approaches to choreography, composition, improvisation and performance. By doing so, to learn and explore how this methodology can be adopted as a creative tool for performance-making, conversations and idea exchanges in a different cultural context.
There are three major events for different groups of participants. Upon arrival, an Artist Talk will be hosted to introduce the artist trio, their experience in cross-disciplinary collaboration and individual’s artistic practice, as well as getting to know the practitioners in the local performing arts scene. Followed by a 3-day workshop for performance-makers to explore and create through the designed scoring exercises, which leads to the final presentation. Titled Scoring Motion: Three Days, Three Mediums, Three Minutes, an exhibition involving demonstration and presentation will be held at the end of the residency at Seoul Dance Center to conclude the experience by sharing our findings and to showcase the works created by the participating artists, along with future developments of this project.
